Alliance to End Plastic Waste

The Alliance to End Plastic Waste is a nonprofit looking to develop sustainable solutions to the global plastic waste challenge. It is on a mission to bring together global organizations, in partnership with their members, to identify and implement sustainable solutions to plastic waste through small actions.

Every little piece counts.

We were tasked with creating the design language and materials for a global, two-week litter cleanup campaign: All_Together Global Cleanup. As the lead designer on this project, I created the look and feel of the campaign and the dynamic microsite (in partnership with an ultra-talented developer), which served as a dashboard or call-to-action for participants.

We set out to create a completely immersive, interactive experience. With litter being the primary visual, the challenge was finding a way to not only make the design appealing but compelling. A condensed, variable typeface layered with a mix of clipped litter imagery and hand-drawn illustrations came together to create a memorable and dynamic web experience that engaged users and encouraged them to participate. We also included a subtle use of texture throughout, which gave the campaign a guerrilla, gritty tone that we and the client really wanted to achieve.

The campaign goal was to drive awareness around the global plastic waste issue, provide education on the solutions to fix it, and to empower users and audiences to act. Our efforts launched a movement that inspired partner organizations to action—built around the understanding that it will take each of us doing our small part to make an impact powerful enough to effect change.
